Jack Havice Obituary

Dad was born in steel mill country - Pennsylvania August 28, 1926. He joined the Navy to see the world and as a young sailor he watched the atomic bomb detonate in the Bikini Atoll. After that, they said he'd never have children, but he had five - Jacque Thayer, Dale Barela, P.J. Havice, David Havice and Daniel Havice. He was the pastor at the Black Forest Chapel during the 1960's and taught at the Air Force Academy for 20 years. Survived by his wife Marilyn, his children, a dozen lovely grandchildren and several delightful great-grandchildren. Rest easy Dad.

I had the privilege of having Mr. Havice as a teacher in both 4th and 5th grades at Pine Valley Elementary. I always remember him as my favorite teacher.

I was one of Mr Havice's 5th grade students at Pine Valley Elementary School at the Air Force Academy in 1976-1977. He was one of my favorite teachers. He taught me how to play chess and I remember that we built a small structure in the classroom together that had a loft. The whole class loved him. He was firm yet patient. He shamed me (in a good way)out of not doing my school work. Because I was blessed to have teachers like him, I went on to be commissioned in the USAF and fly jets. I now fly for United Airlines. He fostered and encouraged those dreams. I had a chance to look Jack up while visiting Colorado in 2008 and regret that I did not follow through. My condolences to your family.
