Jack Wells Obituary
September 6, 1930 February 26, 2021
Jack Frederick Wells passed on February 26, 2021 at the age of 90. His two sons, Joseph and Daniel, and his wife Christine were with him in their home in Monument, Colorado. He was born in Syracuse, NY on September 6, 1930 to Fred and Emma Wells. He graduated high school in 1947, enlisted in the US Navy in 1951 serving on the USS Coral Sea, was discharged in 1954, then went to work for IBM that same year. His electronics training in the Navy plus continued education following discharge set him on course for his successful and distinguished 37 year career with IBM which included several Magnetic Tape Drive projects in Poughkeepsie, Boulder, Tucson, and Colorado Springs. He was also tasked with the development of Bank Check Processing, Branch Banking Automation products and ATM's in Charlotte, NC. He was highly respected for his expertise, his talent, his leadership and his integrity. Through the years he became mentor, colleague and friend to many who worked for, with and beside him as they developed many winning products for IBM.
He loved his family, his co-workers and his friends. When not working he enjoyed a round of golf, skiing Colorado mountains or coaching kids soccer and T-Ball. His favorite get-away place was our cottage in upstate NY where he could fish, sail and play golf with both his own family and his parents.
Jack is survived by his wife of 51 years, Chris; his sons, Joe and Dan; his sister-in-law Diana Wells of Ballston Lake, NY; and his brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Ada Walker of Tucson, Az. He is predeceased by his brother, Verne Wells.
Jack chose to donate his body to "Science Care" for both Research and Education. He did not want a service so I ask that those who knew and loved him to remember him in their own way. If you would like to make a contribution in his honor may I suggest "Science Care" or the hospice that took exceptional care of him and his family during the last weeks of his life, "Compassus" of Colorado Springs.

I had the pleasure of working with Jack when he was the President of Woodmoor Country Club. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. The world was a better place with him in it. Rest In Peace my friend.
