James DeCasper
April 7, 2025

James DeCasper, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2025. He was a longtime resident of Colorado Springs.
Jim was born to Dominic DeCasper and Anna (Raspiller) DeCasper in Canton Ohio. Jim met and married his wife of fifty years, Christel (Zimmerman) in Salzburg, Austria. Jim and Christel started their family in Europe and over the years had seven children moving several times between various postings in the States and Germany. He served in the U.S. Army and eventually retired honorably at the rank of Command Sergeant Major.
He is survived by his sisters Barbara and Patty. His children: Edward (Timothy), Jimmy (Lona), Michele (Allan), Angela (David), Dian; his eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Ernest (Sheri), son Michael, his sisters Janet, and Donna and his brother Sonny.
In his final weeks Jim received loving care from his daughter Angela, and his caregiver Candyce; under the watchful and amazing care of Rebecca Williams RNCM of Advanced Hospice of Colorado Springs.
A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on April 17 at 10:00am. Family and friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers Jim asked that donations be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org/donatetoday).
