James Durner Obituary

James Ladd Durner passed away at his home on April 26 at the age of 70. He was born on February 20, 1935 in Bern, Kansas to Ada and Clyde Durner. He received his architectural degree from the University of Kansas and worked in Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Saudi Arabia and the Philippines where he met his second wife, Maria Nenita (Net) Legados Durner. James retired in Colorado Springs with his wife in 1994.James was a simple man who most enjoyed being with his family. He also enjoyed traveling, reading, playing bridge and golf, and watching sports. He fought a valiant fight against prostate cancer, outliving his doctor's expectations by several years. His faith and courage held him steadfast on his journey and was an inspiration to all around him. James was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Glee Ann, and his brother, Steve. He is survived by his wife, Net; brother, Judd; sister, Gay; daughters, Leslie and Jamie; son, Kevin; and five grandchildren. He was well loved and will be remembered warmly. Cremation will be handled by Shrine of Remembrance with a memorial service held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 29 in the Brown Room of the Filipino American Community Church located in the Satellite Hotel at 411 Lakewood Circle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Filipino Community Church, P.O. Box 15534, Colorado Springs, CO 80935-5534.

Jim and I were classmates through 12 years of school. Jim was, indeed, a gentle man. My prayers are with his loved ones.
