James Hattaway Obituary

On July 23, 2017, James Algie Hattaway passed away at Penrose Main Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. Jimmy had been a long-time resident of Calhan for just over 26 years.

Jimmy was born in Laurel, Mississippi on November 1, 1955. He would go on to spend the majority of his childhood there. In the late sixties, he would move with his parents and grandparents to the rural community of Fontainebleau on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Following High School, Jimmy obtained an Associate's Degree in Electronics. Following college, Jimmy would go on to work for Ingalls Shipyard, Southern Amusement Corporation and lastly Skyline Electronics in Colorado Springs.

Jimmy was a devoted son, father, grandfather, nephew and family man. For the better part of the last ten years of his life he cooked daily for his aunt and both of his parents. Additionally, he drove his mother everywhere she wanted to go once she grew too old to safely drive. Prior to his grandmother's death in 2001 he also cooked for her daily and looked after her.

Jimmy was fortunate to have had many passions in his life. He loved dogs, birds and horses. He was an avid reader and also loved nature. Additionally, he loved westerns from every era. He and his father amassed a large collection of trophies with their prized hunting dogs and show horses. Jimmy loved hunting and fishing especially with his father and two sons. Jimmy had numerous friends and very much treasured their company. Jimmy's favorite past time of all, however, was attending his two sons' sporting events. It was here that he was most happy. Jimmy could always be heard cheering loudly from the top of the bleachers with camcorder in hand.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, an aunt, two uncles, an infant-younger-brother, and two grandchildren. He leaves behind his mother, Bonnie as well as two sons, Jason (Michelle) and Justin (Michelle). Additionally, he leaves behind three grandchildren, Torrington, Dixon and lastly, Roland who's expected to arrive next month.

Jimmy will be sorely missed by family, friends and all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Graveside Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 28, 2017 at 2:30pm at the Calhan Memorial Cemetery.
