James (Jim) Hyman was born in Providence, RI April 23, 1945, to Joseph R Hyman and Mary Angela (Peg) Dwyer. The son of a career Air Force officer, he lived in Rhode Island, Connecticut, California, Texas, Newfoundland, New Jersey and finally Colorado while growing up.
He attended high school in Mahwah, NJ until his senior year. He graduated from La Salle Academy in Providence, RI in 1963. He was awarded a football scholarship to Holy Cross College which had an everlasting positive impact on his life. He met the love of his life, Barbara Rood, while on Christmas break in 1966 and they married June 1, 1968, at Pauline Chapel in Colorado Springs. His first career job was with AAFES which took the newly married couple to Dallas TX in 1969. It was there they were blessed with 3 children; Nancy Crandall (Jim), Todd Hyman (Lord) and Christine Owen who in turn provided them 8 incredible grandchildren; Dylan Darr, Christian Owen, Kyra Darr, Trevor Owen, Molly Morgan (Nick), Cody Hyman, Katy Keller, and Zaydee Hyman plus one great grandson, Maverick Keller.
Continuing his career, he moved back to Colorado Springs in 1974 and subsequently to Grand Forks ND. In 1976 he became a partner in a sporting goods store in Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction before moving to Woodland Park CO in 1978 beginning a career in Real Estate. In 1989 he transitioned to the health insurance industry with stops in Walnut Creek, CA and Phoenix, AZ. In 2001 he sold his company First American Health Concepts Inc and became the president of a new National Division with Anthem BCBS headquartered in Colorado Springs retiring in 2006 thereby completing an unusual career and circuitous journey back "home" to Colorado.
Jim passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 30, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray Hyman and sisters Patricia Trainor and Paula Buckley. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, brother Kevin Hyman (Jan) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Colorado Springs on December 13, 2024 at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Breeder Release Adoption Service at 18500 County Rd 47.7 Carbondale, CO 81024.

Jim was one of my favorites of the unofficial 19th hole club at The Public House. Always had his crystal light lemonade packet and a smile at the ready. His sincerity was genuine and his laughter a respite. Condolences to the Hyman family

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to be friends with Jim through his brother Kevin and dear friend David Livingston. Jim always had a smile on his face and his faith was as strong as I've seen. In the last few months, Jim, Kevin David and a few others made it a habit to have breakfast together. We shared laughs, memories, and our times on the golf course. I was very lucky to have visited him shortly before Thanksgiving and always had a smile on his face and a true understanding of life itself. He was an inspiration and I'm blessed to have gotten to know him even for a short time. Love and Prayers, Bill Borson

I am so thankful that we were able to spend some time with Jimmy and Barb and Kevin this past summer. He was in great spirits and seemed to be winning his battle. I think God put three cousins together for one last time to let us know even though we have been separated by the miles over the years the love and affection we had for each other since we were kids hanging out together at the beach was still alive. May he rest in peace until we are God willing, united again.

A truly grand guy. I envy J McLaughlin and my other Holy Cross classmates who kept in touch with Jim over these many years.

We´re so sorry for your loss. Have so many fond memories of time spent with Barb and Jim and the brief time I worked with Jim was full of fun times and fond memories. The epitome of an "All around good guy"! With love and sympathy, Dominic and Charlotte Palazzo

I first met Jim in 1963 when we were Freshman at Holy Cross and we have
maintained our friendship over the years. He always accentuated the bright side. His good humor and sense of fun was contagious. I never had a bad time with Jim and there were many. Now it seems that were never enough!
Safe passage!

Nancy and all family, my thoughts go out to you during this time - Berlin shared with me that she really liked your dad (husband, grandfather). It is so hard to lose a loved one and especially such a "family rock"!

I am so sad to hear about this - when we all saw him last year at our Mahwah High School reunion he alluded to a health problem but I was so hoping it wasn't serious. Please accept my deepest sympathy. He was so proud of you all. My very best, Bev (Wall) VanBuren
