James (Jim) Royal Obituary

James (Jim) Royal went to be with the Lord, 2-13-2016. He was born in Egypt, Ga. 3-17-1933 to John Gordon and Velma Jewell Royal.

He is survived by his wife, Terri, sons, Bob (Cathy), Phoenix Arizona, Jeff (Sandy), Callao Virginia, and daughter-in-law Denise, grandchildren; Bobby, Andy (Ryan), Eli (Amber), John, Jesse (Ashley), Shannon (David),Tory (Eva), nine great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Ethan, Ryan, Austin, Dylan, Aaryn, Alex, Violet, and Elayna and sister Barbara Collins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother John, sister Mary Mina, son, Jamie, and granddaughter Karen.



Jim spent 20 years in the Air Force as both an aircraft welder and in the electronic field. After retiring, he received a call to Florence as pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in 1972. This was both his first and last pastorate. He also pastored in Glenwood Springs, Cripple Creek, Colorado Springs, and Rockvale, Colorado. He retired in l995. He then spent 11 years in Mexico doing volunteer mission work.



His last years were spent filling in the pulpit for pastors, which included Alaska. He preached up until this past fall. The center of his life was showing people the way to heaven through Jesus Christ. Jim was known for his burning zeal for souls. He loved Colorado outdoors and spent many hours with his family camping and fishing.



Jim was a faithful servant of the Lord both in the Air Force and pastorate. Memorial service will be in Florence at First Southern Baptist 303 E 3rd St. 2-17-2016, at 10:30 A.M.
