Lt. Col. (ret) James Arthur Landgraf, Sr. (Jim), a 26 year Army, decorated Vietnam veteran and a proud Illinois native, peacefully departed on January 27, 2024. His life, shaped by the heartland, was a testament to love, resilience, strength, and dedication.
For 49 years, Jim shared an enduring love story with his devoted wife, Lois, creating a legacy that extends through their five grateful children: Heidi , Greg, Jim Jr. , Tod and Catherine, and his six grandkids: Jennah, Kelsey, Aidan, Makena, Michale and Elizabeth. His impact as a father and grandfather carries on in the values instilled in each of them.
Survived by caring siblings, sister Jeannine and brother Jack, Jim was a steadfast older brother who understood the importance of family bonds.
His family always came first, his service to the country second, and while not of equal importance, he was an avid supporter of the Chicago Cubs, cheering for them through victories and defeats with the same unwavering spirit that defined his own life.
In paying tribute to Jim, let us show gratitude and honor for a life of service, family, and love by celebrating his life at an open house on Sunday, February 4, at the VFW, in Fountain from 1-4. (753 S. Santa Fe Ave. Fountain, CO) May his memory endure, and may he rest in eternal peace. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to The Resource Exchange - http://tinyurl.com/JamesLandgraf

When I was a young man. My life turned downward. My alcoholism left me in a void of numbness. I prayed for help, and soon after I met Jim and his family.
Jim gave me a reason to change my life. He gave me a chance to be helpful and necessary. Jim spent countless hours, and days modeling how serving others was my greatest gift. Jim and his family cared for me with genuine Love.
As a result, my life is full of joy.
Thank you Jim for being the real father I never had!

Jim and I celebrated his 80th birthday together at a McDonalds. He was at that time on a low-fat diet prescribed by his heart physician and dared not go there with Lois. So, he asked me to accompany him. He loved McDonald´s cheeseburgers and frequented this location in the Fountain area. All the employees knew him personally and were also prepared to celebrate his birthday. Imagine my surprise when walking into the restaurant the employees broke into a chorus of Happy Birthday and brought out a cheeseburger with a candle in it. He and I enjoyed a burger and fries together and laughed about our secret escapade for years afterwards.
