I am so thankful to have known Dr. Mattoon! He was a great teacher and an even better mentor and encourager. I learned to love genetics and research as one of his students, and I still do to this day. May God give you strength, comfort and courage as you mourn for him and for Mrs. Mattoon. I will miss him, but his legacy will live on.

Or deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Tom, Jenie and Travis for the great loss. He was my good friend, mentor and more than anything my American dad. I miss him and Martha very much. RIP Dr. Mattoon. We have a heavy heart.

I will always hold close to my heart memories of a man as kind and gentle as he was brilliant. I will miss you, Dr. Jim, as I miss Martha.
