Uncle Jim was always my favorite. Solid man, through and through. My father's brother. Precious memories of our conversations. Skiing at mammoth mountain. All those family gatherings. God bless you uncle Jim.

Dear Irene

We were so saddened to hear about Jim. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We always loved seeing you two outside of work -- it was so much fun. Jim would always have a special hello for me when I would come to report his hearings. Rich and I are currently at sea with Semester at Sea and just found out about it. Sending big hugs and loving thoughts your way. Deb Resling

I first met Jim when he was the Chief of Police in Colorado Springs in the late 80's. Later we worked together when I came to the city and he was Deputy City Manager. He was a dedicated and strong minded public servant and a man who was good on his word and loyal to his colleagues. Uncompromisingly honest and totally trustworthy he was also a loving family man. We will miss him.

Jim Munger was an exceptional man and an tremendous asset to the Colorado Springs Police Department where I met and worked for him on the civilian side of the house. It was not only his vision but his ability to move ideas forward and into reality that led the CSPD to become a premier organization. He paved the way! I am saddened by his death and extend my heartfelt sympathy to his family.

I first met Jim at a Colorado Springs get-together for LAPD/LASD retirees about three years ago. I was able to see him again, last year, at the CSPD Medal of Valor luncheon. I learned, that very day, that the CSPD had no awards & recognition program of any kind, until he was their chief and started one. That's leadership! May God grant him eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon him.

A good man who will be sorely missed by us all. We lost another one of the Good Guys. As a fellow retired police officer I had the privilege of watching his career blosom from the day he entered the police academy. May he now rest in peace.

I worked for Jim on 2 separate occasions at the LAPD. He was a remarkable leader as well as a first-class command and staff officer who had that something extra. His character and ethics were the highest and I ALWAYS appreciated what he taught me. Captain, LAPD, Ret.

This is an excellent characterization of Jim's life but can only scratch the surface. I had the privilege of working with Jim in 1957 in a LAPD radio car in Highland Park. This started the 54 year friendship and throughout the years we traveled together, skied, and played golf. We even skied together in February at his condo in Frisco, Co Fortunately, my wife and I went to see Jim on Easter weekend.
