James Nickell Obituary

Former Resident of Colorado Springs.

Jim Nickell was born in Dinuba, California to Selma Helen Nickell and Ernest Nickell, the third of their four children. He loved to fish and hunt during his early years, graduated from high school in Dinuba, and received two degrees in engineering from the University of California - Berkeley.

He married Kay Arlene Sikes in 1967, and they moved in 1972 from California's Silicon Valley to the Front Range of Colorado where they raised their two children.

Still in love with the outdoors, Jim spent many vacations taking his family to national parks, ski areas, and campgrounds around the Western United States.

Jim retired from full time work and relocated to Oregon in 2002. He later moved to Costa Rica and married Edith Escobar Mere, who traveled with him during retirement. She and her children were by his side in San Jose, Costa Rica when he passed away April 7, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and is survived by his ex-wife Kay Nickell; his son Eric, wife Julia, and grandchildren Bennett and Altea; his son Brett and granddaughter Kaitlyn; his brothers Tom Nickell and Robert Nickell; his sister Patsy Zakoren; and his wife Edith Escobar.
