James Pepper Obituary

JAMES "JIM" PEPPER
1950 - 2020
Our father, James "Jim" Pepper, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020 after 70 full years of life. He was born in Boone, IA, met the love of his life, Jane, in Maryville, MO, and eventually planted his roots in Colorado where he lived since 1975. Building was his career, but Coaching was his passion. Along with Jane he spent countless hours with the youth of Corpus Christi, St. Peter's, and St. Mary's as a leader, mentor, role model, and coach. Jim's family includes his wife Jane, son Mick and his wife Becki, son Mark and his wife Erin, daughter Katie and her husband Matt Morse, parents Bonnie and the late Gerald, and siblings Steve, Bill, Gail, Penny, Dave, and Andy. His pride and joy was the grandchildren Maddie, Mackenzie, Mason, Jack, Caleb, Emmie, A.J., Charlie, Ridge, and Brody. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, 55 Jefferson St., Monument, CO on Saturday, August 29th at 1:00 PM followed by a celebration of life at Fox Run Regional Park (Pavilion One) from 3:00 PM until the stories run dry. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone so inclined contribute to the Jim Pepper Memorial Fund. The funds beneficiaries include the charities that Jim held most dear - St. Peter Catholic School, St. Mary's High School, and Catholic Charities of Central Colorado. I worked with Jim at the Home Builders Association in the early '80s, and so enjoyed his presence in our office. He was clever, funny, knowledgeable, and a true family man. Through the years I'd run into Jim at his various positions, when I worked at the Gazette reporting. He was a fine human being, always. There are many folks whose lives he touched in a professional capacity. I'm sorry he's gone. My deepest condolences to Jane, the kids, the grandkids and the family as a whole.

Jim had such an impact on our lives. He was the first Pepper to move to Colorado. For us Iowans, that was the coolest thing. He and Jane always welcomed us whenever we wanted to visit. We were inspired so much by their Colorado lives that right after college Denise and I moved there. Fourth of July gatherings and Bronco parties were epic. Jim made sure everyone had a good time.

Jim was 7 years older than me, so when I was in grade school he was in highschool. He played football and wrestled and brought around his highschool buddies. I was in awe of that group, and they treated me great! Looking back, I think that was my favorite time growing up, and Jim was a big part of that. Even though Jim didn't play baseball, a couple of his friends did, so this "little Pepper" became the batboy for the highschool team. I was in a dream world. I had it made, thanks to my brother Jim! I miss him. He and Jane have an amazing family.
