James Pilkington Obituary

James Pilkington, 78, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs passed away September 8, 2011. He was born July 26, 1933 to James H. and Velma G (Horn) Pilkington in Saguache, Colorado. James proudly served in the United States Marine Corps following his graduation from High School. He was a Korean War Veteran. He married Gladys M. Corum on January 15, 1956 in the then newly constructed First United Methodist Church in downtown Colorado Springs. James and Gladys always believed that they were the first couple to be married in the newly constructed church at it present location. James and Gladys were both actively involved with the Lions Club International. James was a Lions Club member for 25 years and a Past District Governor. While he spent over twenty years working in Commercial Banking in Colorado Springs, James retired from King Soopers after having worked for ten years as a tele-shopper and home delivery driver. He greatly enjoyed his work with King Soopers and all the meaningful relationships he was able to make with his grocery delivery clients and coworkers. James is survived by his loving wife, Gladys; his sisters, Mary (Larry) Gilbert of Grand Junction, Colorado and Lila (Craig) VanLengen of Leander, Texas; his brother, Gerald (Evelyn) Pilkington of Irvine, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in James' memory to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
