Chief Warrant Officer 4 James "Jim" Waverly Rawlings, Jr.



Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CWO) Rawlings was born in Norfolk, VA on January 22, 1929, through the union of James W., Sr and Mabel Lee (Woodington) Rawlings. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 29, 1946, at Norfolk, VA, and retired on October 1, 1976, at Washington, D.C. Rawlings' thirty years of service included tours of duty in Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and Germany. CWO 4 Rawlings' service was recognized by awards of the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaves, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. His service from 1946 through 1951 was Infantry, Engineers, and Military Police. From the years 1952 through 1976, he served as a Special Agent with the Army Criminal Investigation Command.



Jim was blessed with a large and loving family. He married the love of his life, Lucille Clayton Rawlings on July 29, 1949, and they were blessed with four children. During their 69 years together, they traveled the world and settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1967. He is survived by his daughter Karen L. (husband, Rick) Wiest, son Michael W. (wife, Wendy) Rawlings, and by siblings Rosalyn, Jean, John, and Gordon. He meant a great deal to his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He is predeceased by his two sons, James Steven and Kevin Mark.



A celebration of life service is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31st, 2022, at Dove Witt Mortuary in Fountain, Colorado, (6630 S. Highway 87, Fountain, Colorado, 80817) followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery, also in Fountain, next to his beloved Lucy.
