James D Schumacher passed away February 6,2021 after a valiant struggle with Dementia.
James (Jim) Schumacher was born in Fargo ND, the youngest child of Elbert and Rose Schumacher. He attended St. John's University in Collegeville, MN, he was selected to finish his studies at the Pontifical North American College, Vatican City, Rome. Receiving a master's degree in theology. He was ordained a catholic priest in December of 1954. He served the Diocese of Fargo, ND, serving in several Parishes in the Dioceses for close to 20 years.
Jim met Nancy Degnan and developed a deep friendship that grew into a loving relationship. After moving to Colorado Jim decided to leave the priesthood, fulfilling a strong desire to marry and have a family. Receiving a dispensation of his priestly vows, he left the priesthood and married Nancy on July 6, 1974. Following their marriage, they settled in Colorado Springs, CO.
Jim continued his education, getting a master's degree in Mathematics he taught at several colleges in Colorado Springs. He continued to stay active in the Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. Jim kept busy with teaching, counseling, and working for the State of Colorado human services. In his retirement he became active in multiple volunteer causes, including Odyssey Hospice and SET. He had a long history of helping couples called to marriage, he was very active in Worldwide Marriage Encounter for over 20 years. Jim's final act of generosity was donating his body to the Medical/ Dental school in Denver. He was proceeded in death by his first wife Nancy, and his second wife Connie. Grieving Jim's death are his two sons Mark (wife Kimberly), Preston (Daughter in Law Mary), four grandchildren (Kayla, Emily, Cheyenne, Preston Jr.).
Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church on West Colorado on Friday, February 19, 2021, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Jim would have wanted donations in his name made to a charitable cause of the donor's choice.
