James Werner Obituary

Major James "Jim" Werner passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 after a long illness.

Jim was born November 9, 1940 to James and Clara Werner.

He attended Shawnee Mission High School in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from high school he attended Texas A&M University graduating with a BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1962. He served in the USAF for 21 years at various locations. While in the AF he earned a Master's Degree in Business from the University of Montana. After retiring from the AF he was employed by the Department of Defense for 21 years.

He had many interests and hobbies including flying, motor cycle riding, hiking and fishing. He towed gliders for the Parachute Club in college, the Black Forest Glider Port and the USAF in Colorado Springs.

His latest hobby was photography in which he became very accomplished and creative. He loved Bluegrass, Gospel and Classical music and used this along with his photography.

Jim and his wife, Carol attended Woodman Heights Church. He particularly looked forward to and appreciated his longstanding Wednesday Bible study group.

Jim loved life and gave his all in everything he tried. He was a good man and never complained when his health was compromised. He will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Christmas and Clara Juliet Werner.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; sister Carol Calahan and husband John, Tyler, TX; daughters, Jackie Figgins and husband Russel, Pueblo, CO; Kimberly Wener, Colorado Springs; his beloved grandchildren: Chad Figgins, 22, Chelsea Figgins, 19, Kevin Lohr, 26, Kyle Lohr, 22, Courtney Lohr, 17, Cailynn Lohr, 12, Bradley Reed, 7, and many nieces and nephews.

The service is being held Thursday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodman Valley Stone Chapel with a viewing at 10:00 and a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Jewish Hospital, 1400 Jackson St, Denver, CO 80206
