Jamie Royal Obituary

Detective Jamie J. Royal passed away February 18, 2011. He was born October 7, 1956 to Terri J. Royal and Jim W. Royal of Florence, CO. For 30 years he was married to Denise Royal with whom he had two children: John and Shannon. He is survived by both parents, two brothers: Bob and Jeff Royal, in-laws: Pat and Alma Pattison; two sister-in-laws, Kathy and Sandy, seven nephews and four nieces, and step-granddaughter, Sorcha Carnevale. He was a loving, caring husband, father, and son, and uncle. He was preceded in death by niece, Karen Royal. Jamie graduated from Florence, Colorado high school and then graduated with a degree in police science from El Paso Community College (currently known as Pikes Peak Community College). He served the western slope as a Sherriff's Deputy at Garfield County from 1979 to 1985 then began working as a Police Officer for Colorado Springs, CO until he was forced to retire recently because of a brain tumor. He was a dedicated public servant and served his community well. Jamie was known for his contagious laugh, unfailing compassion, and upbeat disposition. His heart always went out to anyone in need and he loved to be surrounded by friends, family, and coworkers. His life was lived to the fullest. His faith in God was strong and sure. As a teenager he gave his life to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Although, not immune to life's trials and temptations, his footing was significantly anchored as he matured as a child of his King. He finished the race and fought the good fight stronger and firmer in his faith than ever. He was truly fearless in life, fearless in death, and because of his faith in his Lord; fearless in Christ. We share God's Word with you, (John 14:6) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Jamie hoped that everyone he knew will reach out to God's call on their life and respond by asking God's forgiveness for their sin and allowing Jesus to be the Lord/ Boss of their life. He would then encourage them to join a local group of believers. Then, to live ‘like they were dying'. The family is asking for encouraging "Jamie stories" to be e-mailed to [email protected] or mailed to P.O. Box 5332 Security, CO 80931.

I was a Police Cadet with the CSPD in the early '90. Officer Royal was always a great instructor to the Cadets. It was great to know that Officer Royal was going to be working the same detail or that you would be able to ride with him for a shift. I learned a lot from him each and every time that I had the privilege to work with him.

I was a classmate with Officer Royal at El Paso Community College in 1977. He was a very kind and dedicated person who could always make you laugh and he was greatly respected by the students and the instructor as well. Colorado Springs has indeed lost a valued servant and I have lost a good friend.
