Jane Beeder Obituary

A modern woman of the world, Jane Warne Beeder, died peacefully January 8 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was 80 years old.

Jane was preceded in death by David Charles Beeder, her husband of 42 years.

Jane was born in Washington, DC on December 8, 1934 to William and Edith Warne. She immediately began what all her many friends described as a fascinating life. Going to school in Virginia, then Iran and Lebanon, she developed a love of travel that she pursued the rest of her life.

Jane graduated from Northwestern University with a journalism degree in 1956. She was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

Her ability to uniquely express herself was the great talent that defined her.

A devoted wife and mother, Jane lived all over the U.S. as she and Dave raised their family. The wife of a 'newspaperman', Jane moved from New York, to Helena, Montana, to Omaha and many spots in between. She jumped into every community with energy and excitement saying "you have to get out and meet people."

Wherever Jane went she made friends and she kept them for the rest of her life. Moving to Colorado Springs in 1999, her last home, she leaves behind many people she cared deeply about at Mackenzie Place, the Broadmoor, and Cottonwood Studios where she was an active member and participant in the local art community. She was a member of many local charitable organizations.

In her heart Jane was an artist. Her business and vocation was collecting beads and making necklaces her friends described as 'works of art'. Working out of her studio at the Cottonwood Arts Center, Jane spent much of her retirement working in her studio making jewelry. She enjoyed being part of the art community at Cottonwood as much as the art that she made.

Jane lived every day by never looking back and only pointing forward. She loved life and the people in her life. Her friends say she was a positive force who made their lives more interesting and exciting. She loved being with people and they in turn loved being with her. She always treated each day as a 'new adventure'.

She is survived by her two children, John Warne Beeder of Westlake, Ohio, and Ann Bordwine Beeder of New York, New York; as well as three grandchildren; a brother and sister.

A memorial service will be announced in Colorado Springs in the coming weeks.

Jane would like any donation be made to the Cottonwood Center for the Arts in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Having headed up the legal team that successfully , I hsettled her suit vs the World-Herald in 2002ave innumerable warm memories of working with Jane. However, my most precious memory of her friendship is what she did for my Mom, whom I lost only last year at age 100.
Not long after the WH suit was concluded, Jane invited my Mom and myself to have lunch with her at the Omaha Press Club, in which my Dad had been very active-along with Dave and Jane-prior to my Dad´s death in 1977.
Throughout our lunch, Jane recalled a number of her memories of my Dad to Mom, and was extraordinarily sweet. Mom not only teared up repeatedly at the lunch itself, but over the years she often spoke of her memories of that day, and of how kind Jane had been, particularly around the time of Jane´s death.
Thank you, Jane!
Your friend,

I met Jane in 2013 during a trip to Europe. Such a gracious and gentle lady, with a love of life. I am so glad to have met her.

I met Jane through my mother (Barbara Webb) as they were both part of the unique group of women who walked at dawn each morning at the Broadmoor Hotel. She was a wonderful friend and extremely helpful to my mother as her health failed. She will be remembered for her talent, her warmth and gracious manner of living. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

I was happy to get to know Jane over our mutual love of beads and ethnic jewelry, as well as in our yoga classes. She was a lively and admirable woman! Lin Fife, Colorado Springs

Jane was a positive and unique person. I can't put into words what an experience it was meeting her. She would talk to you and make you feel you were important to her and she wanted to know you. A strong woman.

I will miss Jane so much. She was a good friend of my mom and I enjoyed being with her and seeing her beautiful jewelry that she wore. Her art at her studio was equally exquisite. She will be remembered fondly by so many.
