John Lail Obituary

CONNELLY SPRINGS - Mr. John Luther Lail, 79, of Connelly Springs, died Monday Dec. 29, 2008, at his residence after a brief illness. Mr. Lail was born April 5, 1929, in Burke County to the late Clyde Wesley Lail Sr. and Ola Le Lowman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Connelly Springs, enjoyed deep-sea fishing and was currently employed by Century Furniture Co. as a long-distance truck driver. John was also a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leslie, Willie and Clyde W. Lail Jr.; and seven sisters, Laura Leger, Edna Lail, Julia Perkins, Hilda Haliburton Cranford, Margaret Perrou, Betty Key and Ila Smith. Surviving are his wife, Celia Lail of the home; a daughter, Jean Lail Powell and husband, Gary, of Valdese; and a sister, Mary Rhoney and husband, Bob, of Valdese. Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Donna Keaton and husband, Scott, Julie Stallings and husband, Larry, and Jonathan Powell, all of Valdese; and three great-grandchildren, Courtney and Faith Keaton and Jacob Stallings. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at 4 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 234 of Valdese. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
