I was not 18 when Jane Stanbrough taught me two things; one was English. The other was to believe that I could be a writer. Her spirit lives on every time I type a single word, which is to say, every day. Decades and time zones intervened. I never fell out of love with her.

Pat and I were deeply saddened to hear of Jane's death. Jeff telephoned us with the news. We remember Jane fondly and have missed her since she and Alice left the Bay Area. Our thoughts are with her sister and with Alice during this difficult time.

It was with deep sadness that I learned of the death of Jane Stanbrough. She was one of the first senior faculty members I met when I arrived at UCCS in the late 1970s.Jane was a supportive and generous mentor. I will remember always with great appreciation her warm and sharing spirit. Although I have not seen her in many years,my memories of her are extremely pleasant and entirely vivid. My deepest sympathy and best wishes are extended to Alice and Jo. You are both in my thoughts and prayers.

Jane was a vibrant force in the English Department at CU-Colorado Springs, where she was department chair when I was hired in 1978. This was a time when women faculty on college campuses were sparse and female department chairs even rarer. Jane was a supportive and inspiring leader, kind friend, and wise mentor. Dear Alice and Jo, I send you my deepest sympathy and strongest wishes for peace of mind at this sorrowful time.
