Jane Wynalta Burrows Stiehl, age 91, passed away on to her eternal home on September 21, 2024, in Colorado Springs, surrounded by her loving family.
Celebration of Life will be at 1:00PM, November 14, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church, Colorado Springs, with a reception to follow. Interment will be later in Hay Springs Cemtery, Nebraska.
Jane was born September 18, 1933, on a farm in Hay Springs, Nebraska, the fourth child of Paul Alexander and Hazel Rush Burrows. She attended grades 1 to 8 in a one room country school with her two brothers and three sisters. In 1945 the family contracted scarlet fever and were quarantined. Everyone recovered with the help of a new drug, penicillin, albeit Jane lost the hearing in one ear. Jane and her siblings moved to town to attend Hay Springs High School. She played the saxophone and was the Homecoming and the Friendly Festival queen. After graduating in 1951 Jane attended Chadron State College, earning a teaching certificate.
While in high school, Jane met the love of her life, Gary Stiehl. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rushville, Nebraska. To this union four children were born: Sonja, Lori, Becky, and Steve. The couple lived in Virginia while Gary served in the Army. Their next move was to Lincoln, Nebraska where Gary received his dental degree. After graduation they moved to Sterling, Colorado and eventually settled in Colorado Springs.
Jane's biggest love was raising her family and supporting her husband. She studied her Bible and applied her faith as an active church member including Bible Study Fellowship leadership, hosting Bible studies in her home, delivering meals on wheels and cooking for the kids at Get Set. She was a gracious hostess, a decorator and could sew matching outfits for her children and grandchildren. She regularly played bridge, was a member of PEO and enjoyed many close friendships. She supported her husband by working in his office and was a member of the Dental Auxiliary helping to set up a display of old dental equipment at the Pioneer Museum. She was always up for camping, four wheeling the passes in Colorado, or working on their mountain cabin. Jane's desire was to pass her faith and love of God on to all her family and friends.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ed Burrows, Bryan Burrow (Lavonne); sisters, Janis Wulf (George), Onda West Hupp (Orvis, Gene), and sister-in-law Sharon Janick (Pete).
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gary, daughters; Sonja Nelson (Larry) of Flower Mound, Texas, Lori Woody (Bill) of Ooltewah, Tennessee, Becky McCord (Andy) of Colorado Springs, son, Steve Stiehl (Jackie) of Roseville, Minnesota, grandchildren; Rob Nelson (Haley), Paul Woody (Tara), Amy Woody, Ryan Woody (Hillary), Michael Nelson (Meredith), Danika Stiehl and Matthias Stiehl, great-grandchildren; August, Leo Nelson, Jack, Penny, Cody, Wendy Nelson, Reed, Lincoln Woody, Shepherd, Lorna, Joanna Woody, sister, Rose Burrows of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Get Set at First Presbyterian Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
