Janet Howbert Obituary

Devoted mother and caregiver.



Janet Ida Howbert, 81, died Thursday, August 21st, at her Colorado Springs home with her family by her side.



Jan was born October 23, 1932, in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Howard and Elsie Haverland.



In 1953, Jan graduated from Presbyterian/St Lukes Medical Center with a degree in nursing. Jan went back to school to acquire her Scrub Nurse qualification. She retired from Penrose/St Francis in 1997. Jan enjoyed many activities including hiking, backpacking, gardening, and reading to name a few. Her main passion was caregiving which she accomplished right up to the end of her life.



Jan is survived by her children, Jeanne Sample and David Sample; two grandchildren, Patrick Freymuth and Denise Freymuth; sister Lois (Haverland) & brother-in-law Kent Gill, brother Clair & sister-in-law Kay Haverland, brother Willard & sister-in-law Muriel Haverland; and many friends.



She was preceded in death by two husbands Robert E. Sample (1991) and Irving Howbert (2014) as well as several members of the Haverland, Howbert and Sample families.

A celebration of Jan's life will be held within the first two weeks of April 2015, time and place to be determined.
