Janet was born on February 4, 1940 in the small farm town of Clay City, Illinois. Her parents were Ken and Virginia Poppe. She had an older sister, Medora, and a younger brother, Kenneth Dale. Growing up on a farm gave her all of the normal life experiences that would be expected in this environment. In her senior year in high school, she developed a severe liver problem that put her in the hospital for several weeks. During this time, she was introduced by her cousin to an Air Force friend, Al Brose, from Scott AFB who began frequent hundred mile drives to see her. Soon after her release from the hospital, they dated and soon eloped. In later years, they arrived in Bismark, ND where eventually, two children were born, a daughter, Patricia, and a son, Marlon. Sadly, the marriage ended in divorce after nineteen years forcing Janet into the role of a single parent.
In 1980, she decided to move to Colorado Springs where her brother and his family were residing. Eventually, her divorced sister and her parents also moved here. Janet worked at various jobs, mostly waitressing during these years. Medora died from brain cancer in early 1986. Janet decided to seriously try dating and maybe marry again. Through a dating newspaper, she met Marvin Narragon, a bachelor who had been searching for the perfect mate for many years. Since both were in their mid-forties, they did not waste time, meeting in March, married in June.
During the years, the couple did a lot of travelling. She said that her first husband only ever wanted to go to Las Vegas every year. With Marvin, she got to go to Hawaii, the Bahamas, Washington D.C., New England, Florida, a Mediterranean cruise, and many other places. For several years, they had an RV to roam with. She convinced Marvin to become a Freemason and a Shriner which allowed Janet to become a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Princess in the Daughters of the Nile Shrine ladies. She was also busy as a member of the Red Hat Society.
Various ailments, including neuropathy, fibromyalgia, Parkinson's, and spinal disorder began overtaking her and severely limited her physical abilities for the last years of her life. This was a major disappointment for someone who had been so active all her life. Marvin took care of her at home for as long as possible, but all of her ailments forced her to the hospital where she died a few days later on June 5, 2025. Survivors include her daughter and son, grandsons Camden and Tucker, great grandson Marshall, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 1 PM.

I met Janet through the Red Hat Ladybug group. She was so friendly, gregarious, and full of spunk. She eventually had to step away, but we kept in touch through the years. It's sad that her health was a factor in living her life to the fullest. May she RIP.
