Janet Strutton Obituary

Strutton
Janet "Jake" Kay (Butler) (Michael ) Strutton
July 24, 1955 - December 27, 2017
In God's kingdom, there are angels, and then there are very special angels. On July 24, 1955, in Sentinel, Oklahoma, James and Tomasina Butler were blessed with one of those very special angels. Almost from the moment she arrived from Heaven, her family knew Janet was a remarkable person with a big heart, gentle demeanor, infectious laugh, and a fiery passion for helping people. Janet was a true care giver.
Janet realized from early childhood that she was destined to be a third-generation elementary school teacher by following the footsteps of her parents and her Grandmother who taught school before her. Possessing a wonderful work ethic, Janet graduated from Wasson High School in Colorado Springs in 1973 before moving on to the University of Northern Colorado where she earned her Bachelor degree in Education. She later earned a Master of Education degree at the University of Phoenix in 2001. Janet taught many hundreds of children during her 34 year career at Colorado School District 11as well as volunteered on a multitude of committees that dramatically enhanced the educational programs at D11while at Columbia Elementary School, Twain Elementary School, Penrose Elementary School, and finally retiring from Freedom Elementary School in 2011 to care for her elderly mother. A superb cook, Janet was well regarded for her ability to produce remarkable meals. She was the local chapter president of the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority, past Board member of the Pikes Peak Autism Society, and volunteer fund raiser for the American Cancer Society and the March of Dimes. Janet is preceded in death by her father, Dr. James Butler, her mother Tomasina (Pair) (Butler) (Harlow) Mazza, sister Terry Butler, and her brother J. Steven Butler. Janet is survived by her husband Bill Strutton, her son Jeffrey Michael (Heather), step-son Jared Strutton, granddaughter Alyssa Michael, sister-in-law Kathy Butler, niece Courtney Butler, nephew Keith Butler (Jackie), niece Cara (Butler) Hawkins (Jason), and three wonderful great-nephews. Janet is also survived by her best friend Jo Meyers as well as many other friends and relatives. Janet was loved by all.
Celebration of Life services will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church located at 2111 Carlton Ave. Colorado Springs, CO at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be given to the Pikes Peak Hospice organization who provided exceptional care for Janet during her battle with breast cancer. Donations can be directed to https://www.pikespeakhospice.org or by calling 719.633.3400.

I had the privilege of working with Janet at Penrose Elementary in the early years of 2001 and 2002. She was a great teacher and a wonderful person. I was saddened to hear she had passed. May God comfort her family and friends during this time of grief and reflection in the wonderful life and person that Janet was. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel.
