Williamson
JANET GAIL WILLIAMSON
July 5, 2019
Janet Gail Williamson, 67, passed away on July 5, 2019 at her home on San Juan Island surrounded by dear friends, her sister Darleen, and her loving animals Moose and Frankie. She did her best to live life to the fullest while fighting breast cancer for five years.
Janet was blessed with dedicated friends in Colorado, Washington, Mexico, New Zealand and elsewhere who supported her during her illness. She lived in Evergreen, Colorado for more than 30 years. In the final years of her life, she moved to San Juan Island, WA to be close to her sister, Darleen Nixon.
Janet had a long and rewarding career as a teacher. Early in her career, she worked with deaf students in Colorado Springs and Littleton. She loved working with kids in middle school and taught at John Wesley Powell Middle School for many years. Former students contacted Janet throughout her life and in her final months. She loved hearing about their lives and the accomplishments of the young people that she had nurtured and educated.
Friends and family remember Janet for her tender heart, sense of humor, and wonderful generosity. She made everyone she met feel special. She is survived by her sister, Darleen Nixon of San Juan Island, WA and her adopted grandson, Jack Berendes of Evergreen, Colorado as well as many close friends.
A memorial service and reception will be held, August 24th, 1 p.m. at St. David's Episcopal Church, 780 Park Street, Friday Harbor, WA.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held in Evergreen, Colorado at 1:30 p.m. on August 29th.

My brother and a friend were talking about Miss Williamson yesterday. She was our sixth-grade teacher at Powell Middle School in 1986. She had taught our entire sixth grade class sign language to several popular songs for a performance to area Elementary students as they transitioned to middle school. To this day, my friend and I still remember the sign language to two of those songs and were laughing as we discovered this. We talked about Miss Williamson's positive influence on my brother, who was in her class several years later. Her teachings about the environment led to me pursuing an environmental engineering degree and I spent time performing hazardous waste reclamation.

As we tried to look her up on social media, we learned of her passing and were saddened. Our condolences go to her family. She was an extraordinary woman with a deep passion for both teaching and the environment. One-of-a-kind influencer and I wanted to share this story with her family.

I was cleaning out my office today and came across a business card from Janet for Bearstone Jewelry. I tried to look her up and discovered that she had passed. We weren't close but she did leave an indelible impression on me. My family and I (Brad, Matthew and Katie), were vacationing one year over Christmas in Sayulita and became friendly with her, her then husband and her sister Darleen. We had so much fun with them (including a great trip up the coast the San Francisco, Nayarit for over sized margaritas on the beach). She was so lovely. To her family and friends, "the loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind" - P. Graham Dunn.
Sending love, Monica xo
