Janice Ellen Speed
January 22, 1946 - April 12, 2018
Janice Ellen Speed, age 72, passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs on April 12, 2018. She was a beloved wife, daughter, cousin, niece and aunt, and a treasured friend to many people in Colorado and New York.
Janice was born in New York City on January 22, 1946 to Frank and Edith Albrecht. She spent her early years in the New York City area and in White Plains, New York. Janice graduated from White Plains High School and attended State University of New York at Fredonia.
Married to the love of her life, Thomas Charles Speed, in 1972, Janice and Tom spent over thirty years in White Plains and Eastchester, New York. During that time Janice worked for many years as a computer operations manager for AT&T. Subsequently, Janice was the business manager for Tom's electrical contracting business and for their rental properties.
In 2005, Janice and Tom moved to Colorado Springs, where they enjoyed an active retirement and many happy times with family, neighbors and friends and their cats Mimi and Max.
Janice will be remembered for her cheerful disposition, infectious giggle, beauty, good taste, thoroughness in all things, and for her courage and grace following her cancer diagnosis. She loved animals (especially the many cats she owned in her adult years), nature, music, yoga and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her uncles Albert Bliss and William Herbert Bliss, her aunt Gertrude Mooney, and her cousins Robert Bliss and Nancy Pleasanton.
She is survived by: her husband, Thomas Speed; her cousins Marilyn Forrest (and Marilyn's children, Susan, Allison and Stephen), William Bryan Bliss (and his wife, Judy, and daughter, Jodie); Kathleen Bliss (and Kathleen's children, Graham and Sarah-Violet) and Wendy Bliss; and Tom's six nephews and nieces.
A private memorial service is planned.
