What an amazing woman and inspiration our mother was! Jayne was born Lois Jane Scholz on November 15, 1923, in Lake Forest, IL, to Robert Francis Scholz and Rose Hazel O'Connell.
She met her first husband, James Pursell Vanzant, in Honolulu, HI, in November 1939. They were married for 13 years, and had 6 children. When Jimmy died in an automobile accident in Rabat, French Morocco, in July 1955, Jayne returned to the U.S. to raise their children.
Jayne met John Earl Polliard in August 1960. They were married for almost 8 years and had 2 children. Johnny died in an electrical workplace accident at the U.S. Air Force Academy in March 1968.
Jayne was a Girl Scout troop leader, founder or co-founder of numerous organizations to include Colorado Springs chapters of Childbirth Education Association and La Leche League; Association for Prepared Parenthood with Successful Breastfeeding; Cleft Lip/Palate Parent Support Group for the March of Dimes in Colorado Springs and Phobia Free. Jayne earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology summa cum laude at UCCS in 1991. She loved painting watercolors and taught at the Senior Center well into her 90's.
She was a woman of integrity, strength, resilience and grace for whom motherhood was her primary goal and lifelong commitment. She was a devoted and proud mother of 8 children, 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 4 "great-greats". Jayne passed away at the age of 99 with family by her side in their family home of 67 years. As she often reminded us, she was well into her 100th year!
She is survived by 7 of her 8 children: Bonnie Dianne Lloyd, Karen Vanzant, Laurie Staub (Don), Lance Vanzant, Leslie Montez (Michael), Michelle Quaney (Kevin), Randall Polliard (Jamie), her step-son Jan Polliard (Sharon), and her many descendants and their loved ones. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, James Pursell Vanzant and John Earl Polliard, infant son Dale Vanzant and step-daughter Nancy Polliard.
Jayne's inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Alexandria, VA.

Jayne's Celebration of Life will be an Open House on Sunday, August 27th, 1-4 p.m., with light refreshments. It will be held at La Foret Conference Center, Inglis Hall, 6145 Shoup Road, Colorado Springs.
