Jean Anderson Obituary

Jean Anderson, longtime resident of Cascade, passed away at Pikes Peak Hospice early September 14, 2005. She is survived by daughter, Sherri, and son-in-law, Doug List; daughter, Jan, and son-in-law, Eric Barnes; and son, Hal, and daughter-in-law, Darlene Anderson. She was also blessed with and is survived by seven grandchildren: Dave, John, Brittany, Peyton, Kelsey, Chase and Trey, and one granddaughter-in-law, Jenny Paulson. Jean was born September 24, 1920, and grew up in Albany, Texas, graduating high school in 1938. She went on to business school for two years and worked in Fort Worth as a stenographer until the end of WWII. On December 16, 1943, she married Laddie Anderson, pilot in the Air Force, who preceded her in death in June, 1986. She and Laddie lived in India for five years following the war, where Laddie continued flying and she discovered the game of golf and was quite good at it. They relocated in 1950 to Hartsel, Colorado, and took up ranching. They moved from Hartsel to Chipita Park in the mid-fifties, and operated the Elkhorn Riding Stables in Green Mountain Falls. In the late 50's, Laddie returned to flying and followed seasons from location to location as a duster pilot. In 1960, they bought their final home across the ravine on the hill in Cascade and Jean continued to remain in the mountains devoting her love and life to her children. She loved cards, particularly Bridge and Poker, wild birds, and served in many capacities, including lay reading, in the Church in the Wildwood. She had a beautiful voice and a flair for delivery and was asked to speak at programs quite often. Diagnosed with emphysema COPD in 1995, she remained in Cascade as long as she could take the altitude, before moving down to Colorado Springs early in 2003. Jean will long be remembered by all she knew as one of the nicest, kindest, most caring people ever known. Her sweetness and smile will be recalled fondly and be sorely missed by those still here on earth. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, at the Shrine of Remembrance.

I will really miss my good neighbor in the next "gulch." I remember riding my horse up Wellington Gulch early in the mornings and stopping at Jean's for coffee and catching up on the neighborhood news. Jean was always kind, thoughtful, interested in her neighbors and friends and just nice to be with. As we got older we only talked once a year and that was by Christmas Card. Still, I looked forward to hearing about her family each year. Jean and Laddie and their family will always be remembered as part of some of the best times in Ute Pass.

Jean & Laddie were such good friends to my parents, and, of course, helped raise me. Even though we haven't been in touch in many years I will never forget Jean's kidness and the love she gave.

In loving memory.
