Jean R. Byers, 86, of Woodland Park, Colorado passed away Sunday, August 27th, 2023. She was a long-time resident of Woodland Park originally moving here in 1973 with her husband, Jim, of forty-one years. Jean, Jim and their 3 children were the first residents of Sunnywood Manor in Woodland Park.
Jean was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 15, 1936 to Frank L. Randall and Lela Brooke Randall. She grew up in Dixon, Illinois with her 3 brothers, Bob, Dick & Don. Jean graduated from Dixon High School in 1954 and continued her education at Northern Illinois University where she met and married Jim Byers in 1956. They continued their education at Ball State University and they both began teaching careers in 1958.
Jean taught in the business department at Woodland Park High School for twenty-one years, played the piano for the high school musical, taught business at Pikes Peak Community College, taught music in her early career and returned as a substitute teacher for the Woodland Park School District after retiring.
Jean was a Charter Member of Mountain View United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, directed the Children's Choir and played the piano for Sunday services until 2019. Jean was commissioned as a Stephen's Minister on June 10, 2012. She shared her love for music with 100's of piano students over the years. Jean continued teaching piano until February of 2023 and had hope to be sitting back at her piano in the near future.
Jean loved traveling after retiring which included wonderful trips to Africa, Scotland, Europe, Churchill, Israel, and numerous trips to Maui to name a few of her favorites.
Jean is survived by her 3 children: Jay Byers, Jim Byers, Jill (Nathan) McKinney, 7 grandchildren (Kelly, Becky, Melissa (Eddie), Caitlynn (Justin), Jason (Andrea), Natalie & Jacob (Nickie) and 13 great grandchildren.
Jean touched many lives in Woodland Park over the last 50 years and will be missed by all. Please join us for a Celebration of Life on September 9, 2023 at 11am at Mountain View United Methodist Church, Woodland Park, CO. A reception at the church will immediately follow.

I loved her encouragement and kindness. She was one of my business teachers and played piano for the plays. Sad to hear of her passing.
