Jean Clarke Obituary

CLARKE, JEAN GOULD - age 95 of Knoxville, formerly of West Palm Beach, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at Baptist Hospital West. While living in Knoxville, near her three sons, she was a member of P.E. O. Chapter S, was active in the "Lunch Bunch" at the Church of the Ascension and was a member of the Fox Den Women's Club. She enjoyed bridge and Bible study. In West Palm Beach, Jean was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, serving as president of E.C.W. and on the Altar Guild. A long time member of the Allamanda Circle of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, she served in many capacities. She was a loyal member of P.E.O. In Atlanta, she attended East Lake Elementary School and graduated from North Avenue Presbyterian School. She attended Mary Baldwin College, Agnes Scott College, and Oglethorpe University, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. A lifelong summer visitor of Highlands, NC, she was a member of the Church of the Incarnation and a member of the Laurel Garden Club. She was preceded in death by: her husband of 53 years, Daniel Cangney Clarke; her parents, Fred and Mabel Gould; her brothers, Arthur Gould, Roddy Gould and Stewart Gould, all of Atlanta. She is survived by: three sons and daughters-in-law Dan C. and Mary Clarke of Nashville; Fred G. and Elaine Clarke of Knoxville and John C. and Lissa Clarke of Knoxville and her dear sister, Marjorie Jones (Mrs. Carroll Payne Jones) of Atlanta. She had six grandchildren Brandon Clarke and Jean Elizabeth Clarke, both of Knoxville, Carey Clarke Aron and John Aron of Nashville, Kathy Clarke Bird and George Bird of Atlanta, Stirling Clarke Halversen and Brent Halversen of West Palm Beach, Roddy Clarke Belfatti and Ralph Belfatti of Tampa. She had four great-grandchildren Clarke and Alston Aron of Nashville, Presley and Dorothy Bird of Atlanta. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 10 a.m. at the Highlands Memorial Cemetery in Highlands, NC with the Rev. Tommy Allen of Christ Anglican Church officiating. Memorials may be made to : Holy Cross Anglican Church, Oxford Building, 6208 Baum Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919.

Jean was the epitomy of a southern lady. She was fun to visit with in West Palm Beach and her children were the best too!
