Jean James Obituary

Jean James, age 92, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Monday March 31, 2014 in Colorado.

She was a full-time office manager for Jones and Henry Engineering for 20 years, although music had always been a central part of her life. Jean was an accomplished pianist and organist, attended Oberlin Conservatory, and a member of the American Guild of Organists. She was organist/choir director at Calvary Methodist from 1966-1991 in Monroe, Michigan. She taught piano, voice, and organ at the Monroe Conservatory from 1966-1984. Jean gave piano lessons out of her home until 1991 when she moved from Monroe to Ocala, Florida. Upon moving to Florida she was an organist for various churches.

Jean was an avid bridge player who played daily and greatly missed her fellow bridge players when she moved to Colorado in 2009. Jean was beautiful, intelligent, talented and a humanitarian who will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her infant son John Ficken, husband Fred James, and daughter Susan Heil.

Jean was the beloved mother of six children. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
