November 20, 2021
A Colorado Springs resident of almost 65 years, Jeanne Hyland O'Brien passed away on Saturday, November 20th.
Born in Lincoln, NE, Jeanne was the only child of Leo Stinson and Eleanor Draper Hyland. She was a proud member of the Hyland family and of the family owned business, Hyland Lumber Company of Lincoln. After attending Lincoln High School, and the Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, IL she attended the University of Nebraska where she graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in English. She so loved children and taught in Kansas, Michigan, Oregon and Colorado. Her teaching took her to Portland, OR where she met her future husband, Leo, another fellow Husker. They married in 1961 and moved to Denver, CO to be closer to her parents in Lincoln. They chose to start a family and adopted their two children, Kevin and Marne, and relocated their family to Colorado Springs.
Jeanne enjoyed volunteering for the Colorado Springs Opera Guild, the Symphony Guild, the Fine Arts Center, her children's schools, the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Rotary Anns. She spent summers at her families house in Estes Park and her love of the outdoors was evident in the time she spent hiking, skiing, ice skating, playing tennis and walking.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her son, Kevin J. O'Brien of Maui (Leah) and her daughter, Marne O'Brien-Hillis of Colorado Springs (Rorry Hillis) and her grandson, Leo A. Hillis.
