Jeffrey Stone Obituary

Jeffrey Allen

April 21, 2022

Well-known Colorado entertainer, Jeff Stone, passed away unexpectedly on April 21, 2022. Born March 3, 1953, in Colorado Springs, Jeff graduated from Harrison High School, Class of 1971. He excelled in theater arts, football, wrestling, and choir. After graduation, he received a 4-year scholarship in Music and Theater Arts at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, earning a BA in Theater and Music.
Jeff, alias Joey the Clown, was also the founder of musical groups Tim Finnegan, the Band Sailor, the Professor's Frontier Orchestra, and the Band Wassail. As Joey the Clown, Jeff performed solo and with the Big John Strong Circus, He walked both tight and slack ropes and loved performing for, and playing with, large groups of children. On one occasion, he walked across a 200-foot-long cable strung 200 feet above Monument Creek in Colorado Springs in full clown regalia. He performed many years at the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club, the Glen Eyrie Madrigal dinners, and venues throughout the US, Canada, and France. Jeff shared his love of music and entertained on the streets of Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs to the delight of his audience, family, and friends.
In addition to performing, Jeff was a proud member of IATSE, Local 62, and worked as a stagehand at many Colorado Springs venues. He was also a CNA and cared for family and friends, including his niece, Lily J. Stone, until her death in 2017.
Jeff enjoyed the outdoors and roamed the less-traveled areas, sometimes bringing his tuba to serenade nature. His eyes were quick to see what others often missed, and he would artfully photograph and share nature's most unique and striking images. He had an amazing mind and quick humor. A person's responding smile or laughter would light up his face. Jeff loved food like he loved performance art; he was a master chef at heart, creating elegant and unusual dishes; catering large events, roasting whole pigs, and even recreating the story of Stone Soup, making memories that will last a lifetime. Jeff was also known for random acts of kindness. His passing leaves a vast hole in the hearts and minds of us all.
Jeff is survived by his parents, Harold B. and Dolores A. Stone; his wife, R. Yvette Duncan; daughter, Angeline (Annie) M. Stone; stepson, Kale A. Duncan; brothers Bradford D. Stone and John D. Stone; sister Rebecka S. Evans; three granddaughters, two great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jeff's life will be held from 12 PM to 5 PM on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Bear Creek Regional Park, Colorado Springs, CO 80906 (Large Pavilions #1, #2, and #3). The music service will begin at 1 PM.
Please bring a picnic lunch and drinks for your family. Water will be provided. Handicapped parking and bathroom facilities are available on-site, and carpooling is encouraged. No glass, alcohol, or dogs, please.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (www.hsppr.org/donate/) or the Performing Animal Welfare Society (www.mightycause.com/organization/Performing-Animal-Welfare-Society) in Jeff's memory.

In Greeley Colorado Brad and Jeff Stone were icons of the theatre clique. I was a younger child of the theatre and looked up to these two. Always thought Jeff was awesome. Loved the obituary. Glad to see he lived life so well

Here it is, November 9, 2022, and I have just learned of my friend's passing. Jeff was my joy, my dear friend, my occasional roommate and Best Man at my wedding back in 1976. I am devastated at this news and will be saddened forever. We last spoke on the phone last winter. Goodbye Joey. I love you.

Jeff had an amazing outlook on life. I enjoyed working with Jeff on Union gigs as he was always safe, shared his knowledge of the craft to all new members and extra's. Excellent sense of humor and an excellent musician. Rest well old friend and start a band in the next adventure.
Peace

Jeff was such a wonderful friend and a welcoming and beautiful soul. We shared so many memories at UNC with his plays, music, mountain hikes, and the memorable Thanksgiving road trip to Taos. I am so thankful that we were able to visit him and Annie last summer in Manitou. Rest in peace my friend and we will meet again.

Rest In Peace Jeff. You brought joy and many a smile over the years with your tuba and your wit. I will truly miss singing along with the band Tim Finnegan among always a jolly crowd. My thoughts are with your family.
