Jelani it has taken me this long to look at this page. I guess denial isn't the best action but hopefully I showed you enough love and guidance as your oldest brother...I'll miss you terribly, love your brother Maracus

To my brother Charles and sister in law Thelma .Jelani always greeted me with a smile and always shown great respect, when he myself and khari drove to oklahoma during the black ice it was very scarey, but Jelani made it a great traveling experience as he did on all trips

Mr. & Mrs. Lewis,

My heart goes out to you and your family, I can’t imagine how painful this is for you.

Jelani was such an intelligent, dynamic human being with an amazing sense of humor. It was my good fortune to have had such a great friendship with him over the years, a deep bond that will never be broken.

I can still picture when I met him in elementary school. Two wild, mischievous kindred spirits who got the most out of recess, to the point of our parents signing spanking permits!

I will never forget all of the great times we had over the years, thank you Jelani.

Dear Thelma and Charles, I am still thinking of you and praying for you. My heart aches for your loss.

Our family lost several family members last year and these are a couple of the poems we used that were comforting to us, I hope they comfort you as well...

Safely Home

I am Home in heaven, dear one,
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light!
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing past;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely Home in heaven at last.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now while life remainith..
You shall rest in God's own land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

His Journey's Just Begun

Don't think of him as gone away-
His journey has just begun
Life holds many facets
The Earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting,
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing,
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.

And think of him as living
In the hearts of those he touched
For nothing loved is ever lost-
And he was loved so much!

When you miss him
we’re with you in spirit
wondering how you feel
hoping you’re coping
and getting a little better each day.

He was always one to find laughter in everything and created an environment that helped all of us to bond together. We are all hurting from the loss of an incredible spirit. Mr. & Mrs. Lewis...i am so sorry for your loss! I went to High School with Jalani...he was a great guy...always willing to share a smile.

Jalani always ALWAYS made us laugh. If any of us were having a bad day, he always had a bear hug that would make us feel better, and his sense of humor was something I will never forget. Jalani always had a smile on his face, and could make anyone smile. He used to play little practical jokes on everyone to make us laugh. Jalani, I will never forget how you showed me around UNC when I got lost, how you did the lil "z-formation' snap with Daphne, BJay and I, and the day I was in my cheerleading uniform and you came up behind me, snatched me up and put me in the trashcan, then ran down senior hall laughing...those are precious memories we will never forget. Goodbye my friend...I will never forget you!

Dear Thelma and Charles...I can't believe it, Jalani always had a smile for everyone, I'm so sorry. We have known each other for what seems like forever, I still remember when we took the boys camping and you all showed them the ropes. Jalani was always loving and patient with them. Know that I am here for you all and if you need anything please don't hesitate to call. The pain seems almost unbearable when a child is hurting or taken away unexpectantly. I know there is nothing I can say to take the pain away just know you are in my thoughts and prayers and you are not alone. I love you all...Margaret, Joshua and Christopher

Jalani was a dear friend throughout our highschool years. Although we lost touch over the years I will always remember his terrific smile and infectious laugh. I will miss you greatly, Jalani. Peace to you, my friend. Maile
