Jermaine Frye Obituary

A candlelight vigil is planned for 6:30 pm Friday, November 4, at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial located in Memorial Park (Pikes Peak/Hancock).

Visitation at Swan-Law Funeral Directors on Sunday November 6, 2016 from 4-8pm, 501 N. Cascade Ave. Colorado Springs, CO. 80903. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, at 11:00 am at New Life Church (11025 Voyager Pkwy) in Colorado Springs, CO. The family asks that attendees wear purple or Denver Broncos attire in remembrance of Jermaine.

Jermaine was born October 1, 1985 and passed away at his home on October 29, 2016. From the age of 6, all he wanted to be was a firefighter. His dream started coming true when he joined the Colorado Springs Fire Department Explorer program in 2000. Jermaine's heart lay with service to others, evidenced by the progression of his career. By 2003, while attending Air Academy High School, he was volunteering as a Firefighter with the Woodmen Valley Volunteer Fire Department, followed by the Falcon Fire Department and the Cimarron Hills Fire Department. With a passion for medicine and a natural gift of empathy and sensitivity, Jermaine chose to further his education as a paramedic. He worked as an EMT for American Medical Response in 2005, followed by roles as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Aurora Fire Department in 2010 and the Cimarron Hills Fire Department in 2015.

Jermaine deployed as a firefighter with the Department of Homeland Security to assist with search & rescue efforts during Hurricane Katrina and Rita. He also received the Medal of Honor and an in-person recognition from President Obama for his role as a first-responder during the 2012 Theater Shooting in Aurora.

Jermaine was an avid fisherman of 17 years and loved to share this passion with others, especially children. He enjoyed biking, jogging, and hiking. He loved the color purple and butterflies in remembrance of his mother who passed before him. He truly had a heart for all people, and he didn't hesitate to reach out to new faces. Described as kind, caring, and gentle he was a blessing to and remembered by everyone he came in contact with.

Jermaine leaves behind his "family from God" the Haas family, his brother Taj, fiancé Megan, and an unborn child, currently known as "small Frye". He is proceeded in death by his mother Julie and his father Roy. A GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/uq-jermaine-frye) has been set up by a close friend to assist with future expenses. Please contact the Cimarron Hills Fire Department at 719 591-0960 for additional donation inquiries.

Jermaine was a brother to me and will never be forgotten. I miss his smile and laugh and wish that I could have finally gone fishing with him. I'm sure he's casting a flyrod right now in heaven enjoying time with his mom and fathers.

So sorry for your loss, prayers and thoughts are with all. We don't understand why things happen to someone so young, but he lived his life like an angel, and I guess God needed another angel in heaven to help watch over all the people he touched in his young life
