Jerome Haskell Obituary

August 20, 1923 - June 16, 2008. Waitsburg resident, Jerome Donald "Don" Haskell, 84, died June 16, 2008, at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Walla Walla, Washington. The memorial service will be held in Colorado at a later date. His grandson, Jason Haskell, will officiate at the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington. Mr. Haskell was born August 20, 1923, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, to Jerome Shaw and Maud Everett Long Haskell. He was raised on the family farm at Wray, Colorado, and attended most of his school years in the Fort Morgan/Wray area. His family moved to Denver in his late teens and he graduated from East High School in Denver. Following his WWII service in the US Navy, he managed Emerald Valley Ranch for several years before joining the Ironworkers Union. In May, 1943, he and Rose Marie Major married in Denver. She died in 1975. He married a second time to Sara "Sally" Spencer Malgeri in January, 1977, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She died in 2001. Don loved working on the tallest structures - he was never afraid of falling. He was proud of the four children he and Rose Marie raised and enjoyed Sally's five adult children. His last years were spent in Washington with his daughter and her family. Survivors include two daughters: Laurie Richardson of Waitsburg, Washington and Jeri Haskell of Homer, Alaska; a son, Charles Haskell of Ontario, Canada; daughter-in-law, Antonia Haskell of Manila, Philippines; four step-children: Beth, Sue, Sara and Seth Malgeri; a sister, Elnora Price of Richfield, Idaho; eleven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Vera and Ruth, and his oldest son, Donald J. Haskell.
