Jerry Crockenberg Obituary

Jerry C. Crockenberg Dec. 14, 1932-Mar. 22, 2006. Jerry C. Crockenberg died peacefully in his sleep March 22, 2006. He was born to Gerard and Sarah Crockenberg in Binghamton, NY, on December 14, 1932, and grew up in New York City. He joined the military at 17, served two tours in the Korean War, and was an explosive disposal ordinance (EOD) specialist until his retirement from the Air Force in 1971. He had a second career as the supervisor of the Ammunition Supply Depot at Fort Carson, which he retired from in 1992. As a young G.I., Jerry met his wife Joanne Deimler at a USO dance in Indiantown Gap, PA, in 1952. They were married in 1954. As a military family, they lived in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Italy, Japan, and Michigan. A tough man with the proverbial soft heart, Jerry loved dogs, tolerated cats, liked watching the Broncos, cooking shows, and The Godfather, teared up at Hallmark cards, and cheated at cribbage. He leaves to his children and grandchildren a legacy of love, humor, and redemption. Jerry is predeceased by his wife, his parents, and a brother, Albert. He is survived by his children, Susan Houlton (Jeff); Jerri Raitz (Brett); Eric Crockenberg; and Ellie Weber. He will be remembered by his grandchildren: Nicholas and Alyson Madelen; Heather and J.J. Houlton; Hayley and Jordan Raitz; Kip Crockenberg; and Jillian Weber. In lieu of flowers, be kind to animals. God speed, Dad. We love you more.
