I just heard of Jerry's passing today. Kerry, I am so sorry for your loss.
Jerry and I met at Control Data Corporation in Lincoln, NE in the late 70's. We became very good friends. I loved his sense of humor, and his personality in general. We canoed the Niobrara River in Valentine NE several times. He planned and hosted my bachelor party at his house. He was a groomsmen in my wedding, and a godfather to my children. He was the one that told me of a new startup company, Optical Storage International in Colorado Springs, a joint venture with Control Data and Phillips. We both moved out here (Colorado Springs) in 1986, worked for OSI, and ended up buying our houses within a mile of each other (that wasn't planned but worked out great).
When I was test-driving my first and only used pickup truck, my first stop was Jerry's house so he could check it over for me.
He would bring his red Corvettte over to our house to show me what he had done to it. That was his baby and he was very proud of it.
He loved going to Cowboys Night Club here in town and danced the night away in his cowboy attire.
On one of our canoe trips, Jerry saved the day by finding our camper keys floating in the river after my fiance Vickie capsized our canoe during rough waters. The keys were in a ziploc bag and Jerry said that all he could see of the bag was the very tip of the corner sticking out of the water, reflecting in the sun. He had to paddle quickly to get them as the bag was almost full of water and sinking. It was a miracle that he saw that bag.
On that same trip, my canoe had most of the snacks and drinks in it. Jerry's favorite snack was double-stuffed Oreo cookies, and they were in my canoe. Before we even pushed away from the dock at the start of our adventure, Vickie stepped in the canoe and immediately flipped it over. The Oreo's were soaked and ruined. But the 4 of us still had a great time.
It was a honor to have known you, Jerry. You are missed.
