Jerry Henderson Obituary

Jerry Paul Henderson, 75, of Colorado Springs, Colorado was taken prematurely by asbestos related illness on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. He was the husband of the late Glyvelle Hailey Henderson. A man of courage and integrity, he will be sorely missed by his many family and friends. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was born October 11, 1936 in Campbell County, the son of the late Claude Warren Henderson and Bernice Dalton Henderson. He was a project manager in construction and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserve. Jerry was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local # 68 for forty-nine years, Shindel Masonic Lodge # 601 A.F. & A.M., Elks Club Northglenn, Colorado Lodge # 2438, and a life time member of the N.R.A. He is survived by two sons, Jerry G. Henderson and his wife Melody of Benton, Arkansas and Mark Henderson and his wife Linda of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Rhonda Diamond and her husband Robert of Grass Valley, California and Tonya Wakefield and her husband Joe of Colorado Springs, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Susan Alm, Sarah Perez and her husband Jonathan, Jack Wakefield, Robert Wakefield, Kylie Henderson, Jill Reid, Mitchell Henderson and Sam Henderson; and one great grandson, Jonathan Perez. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Altavista Church of Christ by Lory Brafford with interment to follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites by V.F.W Post 4165, American Legion Post 36, and Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista.
