Jerry R. Whiteman, of Colorado Springs, passed away on Friday, June 24th, at the age of 82.
Jerry was born on March 15, 1940 in Pennville, Indiana and was raised in the area with his four siblings. At age 24 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years, ending in Colorado Springs where he chose to remain. Jerry joined the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1968 and served his community for 37 years, earning the distinctions of both detective and sergeant. He was a beloved colleague, leader, and mentor.
Jerry met his wife, Barbara, in late 1968 and knew instantly that she was the one he would marry. They married in 1969 and together they built a happy, loving home in which to raise their daughter, Susan. Upon his retirement in 2005, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family, especially his cherished Barbara. Jerry loved life, his family, friends and people in general. He was always happy, easy going, kind to all, always quick to smile and laugh, and endlessly positive. Jerry will be truly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughter, Susan (Jason) Macy, grandchildren, Justin, Carter, Natalie, Sally, sisters, Diana Reed, Joyce (Larry) Epperson, brother, James (Doris) Whiteman, numerous nieces, nephews and many many friends both old and new.
A military memorial service will be held at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 12:00PM.
