Jess Sinnett Obituary

Jess L. Sinnett, Jr. age 74, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1957, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 18, 2005 at Penrose Hospital. He was a retired firefighter at the United States Air Force Academy. Jess Louis Sinnett was born on September 10, 1931 in New Port, Rhode Island to Jess and Mary Ann (Virgadamo) Sinnett. He attended schools in Kingman, Kansas and was a 1950 graduate of Kingman High School. He served in the United States National Guard in 1949, joined the United States Navy in 1950, and was honorably discharged in 1954. In February of 1955, he married Shirley Sweet. To this union was born a son, Donald Lee Sinnett. In 1957 he moved to Colorado Springs to serve as a fireman at the Air Force Academy. He married Joan Meyers in 1973. He is survived by his fiancé and companion, Ruth Huisenga of Colorado Springs; his son, Don of Lenexa, Kansas; and step-mother, Anna Kendall of Kingman. He is also survived by his sisters: Dolores Harvert of Dodge City, Kansas; Judy (husband Kevin) Seaman of Hugoton, Kansas; Jean (husband Duane) Blumanlouest of Harrisonville, Missouri; and his brothers: Joe (wife Mel) of Pittsburg, Kansas; Rick (wife Brenda) of Kingman; Jerry (wife Barbara) of Pensacola, Florida; Jeff (wife Connie) of McPherson, Kansas; and Jim (wife Lori) of Sacramento, California. Also surviving are two granddaughters: Hannah and Leah Sinnett. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joan in 1999; and his sister, Louise. He was a life member of BPOE, Lodge 143 and VFW Post 4051, and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 5 and the National Rifle Association. Funeral services will he held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses with a visitation one hour prior in the Chapel. Cremation is planned. A reception will follow the services at the Elks Lodge #309, 3400 North Nevada Avenue. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 415 North Tejon Street #201, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903, www.americanheart.org. Blessed be his memory.

So sorry hear of Jess's passing. My father and I used to hunt with Jess back in the 60's. I ran into him a few times after he retired and hoped he would be able to attend the annual firefighters reunion picnics. He was always one of my favorite fire officers at the Air Force Academy.
