Jesus Avila Obituary

Jesus M. Avila Jr., a longtime resident of Colorado Springs entered into eternal rest on October 21, 2016 at the Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs with his family by his side. He was 90 years young and left a legacy of love with every member of his family, friends, and church community.

Jess was born on May 1, 1926 to Jesus Avila and Angela Avila of Los Angeles, California. He enlisted at 17 to join the U.S. Army in 1944 where he served in the Pacific theater during WWII. He was in the battle of Luzon, and served in Robal, New Britain. He went on to fight in New Guinea and then served with the occupation forces in Japan. In 1949 he joined the newly formed Air Force as a Sergeant and retired from the Air Force in 1965. He continued serving his country as a civil servant for the US Air Force where he retired in 1990.

Jess was a founding member of the St. Joseph's Parish where he worked tirelessly serving his church in many capacities. He volunteered time to coaching Old Timers Youth Baseball for many years and served as an interpreter at Social Services for El Paso County.

Jess was always a loving Husband and Father. Jess was a sweet, gentle and humble man. He has left us all knowing what true love really means by his example of lifelong selfless giving to his family and friends. He was known lovingly as "Tata" by so many more than those in his own family. He is survived by his four children Rebecca, Rita (Alan), Michael (Juanita), and Robert (Darci). Grandchildren, Aubrey (Chad), Adam, Timothy, Teresa (Benjamin), Christopher (Becky), Phillip, Jennifer, Jessica (Jonathan), R.J., and Andres, and great grandchildren Sophia, Sicilia, Santino, Cameron, Elias, Liam, Marley, Avianna and Owen.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 28, 2016, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Swan-Law Funeral Directors, followed with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Ave., Colorado Springs, Colorado. Burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.

Dear Robert,
Sorry for the loss of your father and mother. I will miss them coming through my line at King Soopers, always having nice words of encouragement. Your mother and father were always holding hands, as if they'd just fallen in love for the first time. I could only pray for a love like that. Love Cheryl

Jesus and I worked together at Peterson AFB from 1985-1988. He was always there to listen and provide advice when words of encouragement were much needed. People would always gather around his office to be around him; that was the special gift Jesus possessed and will always be remembered by.

Dear Rita, and to your entire family,
You are all lifted up in prayer. In our Faith, we know that this is NOT the end,
but just the beginning. Now your Dad is before God's glory rejoined with your
mother, his beloved wife. May the precious memories you hold in your heart bring you peace and God's mercy give you comfort. God bless, Bernie Bys

My deepest condolences to the entire Avila family for the loss of such a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather aka "TATA". I have been blessed to have him as a part of my life for many years. Him and Nana had such an unconditional love that you don't see that often anymore, not just for one another but for the entire family and friends. I will not ever forget any of the memories I have with TATA. Thank you TATA and NANA for always keeping me as part of the family I love and miss you both very much.
Until We Meet Again:
Love

Dear Mike and family,

My deepest condolences on the loss of your Father.

I am very sorry for your sorrow. Your Father sounded very special when we talked last, and he was fortunate to have had a lot of years on this planet. This is not a place any of us ever want to be in If there is anything I, or the HPE family', can do to support you please be in touch.

It is said time is the greatest healer, and it is true. Every morning will be better, you will never forget, but it will become less painful

Please take care of yourself and your family at this difficult time,
