JIM MUIR
October 5, 1933 - August 27, 2025
Clever, witty, patient, supportive, kind, humble, faith filled…these are all words people often use to describe Jim. He loved fixing things, dogs, upbeat music, playing cribbage, and praying for his family.
Born 10/05/1933 in Rochester, New York, he was the oldest son of Wilfred and Ethel Muir. His childhood occurred during the Depression and WWII. He and his siblings Marion (Peepers), Rick, and Elsie (Benecke), participated in digging up their front yard to plant a Victory Garden and he made a scrapbook of U.S. airplanes. He loved playing the Sousaphone in the marching band, spending time at the family farm in Vermont, and visiting cousins Helen (Clark), Gwen (Stephens), Sally (Retzer) and Sue (Colvin).
Following his graduation from Charlotte High School Jim obtained a bachelor's degree in engineering from Clarkson College, followed by a master's and PHD in mechanical engineering from Princeton University. During this time he met and married Antje Huep and became a father to Reiner and Christel. With a great sense of adventure, Jim packed up his family and drove on Route 66 to Albuquerque N.M. where he started his 30 year career at Sandia National Laboratories. He provided his children with a rich childhood complete with camping, sailing, road trips, scouting and coaching soccer.
Jim's retirement years brought him to Monument Colorado with his second wife Deb. Together they spent many happy years where he enjoyed time with their daughter Allisyn's family, as well as train rides, driving seniors, and assisting with support teams at Monument Community Presbyterian Church. Jim was deeply loved by his neighbors, friends, family and his grandchildren Logan, Michael, Natalie, Wesley, Kyndall, Meagan and Katherine. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Monument Community Presbyterian Church on October 24th at 11:00 am.
