Jim North Obituary

Jim was born and raised near Pontiac, MI, along with his 2 brothers, Dave and Don, and sister, Jeanette, who survives him. After attending Sterling College he moved to Colorado Springs to join the Navigator ministry. Jim and his first wife, Carolyn, pioneered the Navigator ministry in Indonesia from 1968-1985, where they raised their three daughters, Becky, Lisa, and Cindy. After returning to the U.S. in 1985, he and Carolyn were instrumental in the development of a missionary care program for the Navigators. After Carolyn's death in 1996, Jim found love a second time with Janice, his surviving wife. They blended their two families, including Jim's daughters and Janice's children, Melissa and Matt, all of whom survive him, along with seven grandchildren. He and Janice spent the last several years traveling the world, leading workshops that focused on conflict and grief resolution. Immediately following his return from a 12 week trip to Indonesia, Jim was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer. Jim will be most remembered for his commitment to Christ, his deep love for friends and family, and his life-long commitment to the people of Indonesia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to further the work Jim North began in developing Indonesian national leaders. Send a check payable to "The Navigators", stating it is for the Jim North Indonesia Leader Development Fund, Account #83105. Send to: The Navigators, Account Processing Center, P.O. Box 6000, Colorado Springs, CO 80934. Visitation, 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, June 25, 2010, Angelus Funeral Directors, 2535 Airport Road. I knew Navigator almost at the same time as Jim North & the family left Indonesia. So basically I never met with him. Through Navigator, I knew Jesus Christ and the power of redemption. I believe there are a lot of people like me in Indonesia and the rest of the world who experiencing the same thing as mine. Jim has gone but those who knew him and his works will remember his hearts through what he has done; to guide lost soul to know Jesus Christ and receive Him as the only way to see our God.

Warmly,

The shock felt round the world!

The family of a missionary in the Amazon Basin went to visit him.
After traveling by plane, helicopter, canoe and foot, they reached him at last.
“Wow, you've really buried yourself down here, they exclaimed.
"Not buried – planted, “said the missionary. “Big difference.

Buried or planted? Overcome, dead and put away with a headstone that will remember your name longer than the people around it? Or, dying to self in the unseen places of your heart? Both equal death but the punctuation is different. Buried is death with a period. Planted is death with a comma.
Jim's life was certainly planted by His Lord. And may we be a part of the comma !!

Peace to you and the family, Janice,
John and Ruth Meyer

Dear Janice,
I will always remember Jim and his passion for missions. Indonesia was always on the tip of his tongue.

May you sense the peace of The Lord during this time.

Becky and family,
I'm very sorry for your loss. I remembered your family tonight in the prayers at Westminster Abbey - perhaps a fitting location given his international work. I'm sure many people around the world are praying for you.

In 1968, I was at the San Francisco docks. I can not remember who was with me. I do remember Jim telling us that he knew this was Gods' calling for he and Carolyn. That he did not know how they would be received and that they may not make it back.
We watched them board the ship and we waived as it pulled away and on to Indonesia.
Their commitment made a profound affect on my walk with God. Thank you Jim for your example. You will not be forgotten. Dean and Irene Meeker
