Jim Shaw III Obituary

Jim Shaw III, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1969, passed away on October 30, 2010. He was a true plainsman, born on the family farm near Norton, Kansas who fell in love with the Rocky Mountains. Mr. Shaw was educated in a one room school house and went on to earn a degree in chemistry from Fort Hays University. After serving his country in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines in 1944, he married Shirley PaCerno (deceased 2004) and moved to the island of Aruba. There he began a long career as a petroleum chemist with Standard Oil of New Jersey, ESSO Lago refinery. After retirement, he moved his family here to Colorado Springs and earned a Master's degree in accounting from UCCS, working for the IRS, CIG and Denver Equipment Company. Mr. Shaw was a member of the Masons, Naphtali Lodge #310, of Almena Kansas for over 60 years. He was an avid stamp collector and greatly enjoyed the beautiful view of Pikes Peak outside his window. Left to mourn his passing are his sons, James P. Shaw of Colorado Springs; Spencer Shaw of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Myrna Shaw (James Hassed) and Maryanna Ford (Michael Ford) of Colorado Springs. He was an affectionate grandpa to Audrey Shaw, Anna Shaw, Will and Ben Hassed, Sunny and Sam Ford. He also leaves behind two caretakers who we came to love as family, Carol Spurling and Colette Lindt. Jim was always a gentleman and lived his life by the Golden Rule, never passing anyone on the street without a "howdy." He was a dedicated husband and father who prided himself on being a good student and employee. He lived his life well. The family wishes to extend their thanks to Pikes Peak Hospice. No services are planned. "Go slow but not too slow."
