My father bought your album in 1968. Him and I would listen to you sing "Puff The Magic Dragon" and "Slow Poke" over and over. To this day Puff The Magic Dragon is still my favorite song. I loved your voice and your gentle smile (I was 5 at the time). The songs stayed with my father and I till he passed away in 2006 and one night I was missing him and on one of the TV music stations it came on. I knew then my father was around me and it brought tears of joy and precious memories back to me on a night I needed it. I kept track of you on google over the years and was saddened by your passing. You are truly missed not only by your family but all those hearts you touched through your music and life story. Rest Peacefully Mr. Rodgers

Back on the 18th of September 1933, was the most wonderful date.
It was at this time on this earth, we were all blessed with the voice of Jimmie Rodgers.
I will really miss talking to you, today on your 88th birthday, Jim.
The world has been in such sadness, not only just for today but since your passing.
I still get all the love, hope and inspiration with all your beautiful songs that you have left behind for us.
Just to name a few:
“It is no secret what God can do”
“There’ll be peace in the valley for me”
“Beyond the sunset”
“Whispering Hope”
“In that great gettin up morning”
“I’m gonna walk that lonesome valley”

All our thoughts and love are with the Rodger’s family today.
Thank you again, Jim❤

Sad to hear of the passing of Jimmie. I used to enjoy Jimmie’s mellow voice even decades ago. And into my 60’s I would listen to song after song at night, soothing my mind like lullabies. Jimmie had a way with song. Not just a singer. He was a performer. On nights when my mind wouldn’t settle down, I would turn to the comforting voice of Jimmie Rodgers. Our world today could use that sound . Rest now Jimmie.

Mary & family,
Many, many years ago we met you and Jimmie at your show in Branson (in former Ray Stevens theater). Then again when Jimmie was performing down there. We became good friends with Tony & Judy Gallagher -Tony had talked me into being a fan club rep in our area but nothing ever became of it. The last time we would have seen you & Jimmie would be at Judy's funeral. I asked Jimmie for a copy of the cd that was playing at her funeral and said he'd get it to me. Well, never happened. I was very disappointed because my husband died shortly after that and would have loved it for his service as people were entering the chapel. tony & I kept in touch until he passed away a few years ago. Enough about that - I didn't find out that Jimmie had passed until a few weeks ago. So, so sorry. I remember how he loved his family and we loved the stories he told at his shows. He was a good man and a great singer/performer. I'm sure heaven is getting serenaded by the greatest!!

Like so many kids from Camas did, I took piano lessons from Jimmie's mother, Mary. I was about 11 years old. We didn't live far from Mary's home, where Jimmie grew up. Jimmie's brother Archie lived a few houses up the street from my mom and dad's home on the hill in Camas. We were good friends with the entire Rodgers family while living in Camas. I remember Jimmie coming to visit Archie and his family when I was about 10 years old. He drove up in a brand new big black Cadillac. We all chased the car screaming and yelling. In fact I graduated from Camas High School in 1971 with Jimmie's nephew Donny. I was so sad to hear Jimmie had passed. Jimmie's version of "Unchained Melody" was, in my opinion, the best version ever done. This is a picture of the last time I got to spend some time with the master himself.

I live in New Zealand. I am 79 years of age and Jimmie has been my all time favourite singer since I was a teenager. I never dreamed he would come to NZ but he came with Mary, and I went to two of his shows. He sang 'Today', my favourite, for his Mother's birthday while he was here. A sparkling star has gone from our lives, my love to Mary and all the family. Still wanting to read Dancing on the Moon.

My mother and I fell in love with Jimmy when I was 15 as he looked so much like my youngest brother who was in the Navy during the Korean war at that time. I had all of his records and was one his many fans. When I married my husband, kids and I moved to L.A. and we watched his show a few nights until he was injured and prayed for he and his family. Our kids grew up listening to his music and two of our favorite songs were "Waltzing Matilda" along with "An English Country Garden". We played his records for the grandkids and their children too. His music brings back wonderful memories and I can't wait to get to heaven and hear him in person along with many other singers who are there. R. I. P. Jimmy. I am so glad that I can still play your music. God's comfort to his family and friends!

I grew up with my parents listening to Jimmie Rodgers in the car. Dad recorded Jimmie’s show in Sydney,Australia in 1985 and on his show he sang “the flying saucer” song with his friend Bob, Us, kids loved it. Even today we still love it. A rare song and gee, what a talent!!
My mum loved his song “poor little raggedy Anne”. We used to also sing along to “ Woman from Liberia” and we used to all sing “Water” as well.
We also love to play his Christmas songs including “Wistful Willie” and “I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus” were our favourites.
So many songs, he has left us. What a singer, what a voice!! Thankyou for the signed guitar, made my dad’s journey a lot brighter.
Jim, you live through your music and bring life to people through your songs.
My dad, learnt the guitar because of you and now be play’s “some place green”.
Our thoughts of sympathy to the Rodgers family.
‘True loves a blessing’
Thankyou Jimmie Rodgers!!!

Dearest Mary and Family,
I send you my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to you. Jimmie Rodgers will be missed by all who loved him.

Thank you, Mr. Rodgers for sharing your musical talents with people worldwide. I was a young child when “Honeycomb” and “Kisses Sweeter than Wine” were released. Both of those songs were beautiful and I still remember them now. They were both top hits.

May your treasured memories provide comfort for you. May prayers strengthen you and God’s loyal love always comfort and sustain you. Psalm 23

I would like to say that I grew up on Jimmy Rodgers music. Not on Honeycomb, but Oh Oh I’m Falling In Love Again and especially the beautiful The Long Hot Summer which he sang for the movie that starred PAUL Newman and I was lucky enough to record on my own CD. He did such a beautiful job on that song making it so haunting. This is a sad day for me as a musician who was lucky enough to also see Jimmie perform. I pray he rests in peace and to be able to play with all those who have gone before.
Jimmie you will be missed!

My Dad, Gary Blankenship, always spoke very fondly of his friend, Jimmy Rogers. When Dad passed I called Mr. Rogers to let him know. He was very nice and was sad to hear that Dad was gone. I have pictures of Dad's musician friends from back in the day. I think I have one with Mr. Rogers in it. It makes me smile. I pray for God to ease your pain at this hard time.

I am very sorry that the Rodgers family has lost this great and important man. I will always remember his lovely voice, with so much quality and feeling layered over it. I saw him in concert many times, and met him a few times. He was an unbelievable talent and I would rank him in the top 5 singers that have ever lived. I'm thinking that his song "I'll say Goodbye" is the most fitting farewell that should be played right now.

We met Jimmy in Branson In around 2000 after his show we had a great conversation with him . I found out that we had both worked at the same club in the town where we lived. He was very personable, easy to talk to, so I knew of a disc jockey in our town who did half hour interviews with many entertainers, so I asked him if he would like to do one . He said sure so we got it set up. The Detroit area DJ was thrilled that he could get to interview him. I was always a fan and glad to have met him. My wife and I will remember him forever.

This is indeed sad news as I've been a fan of Jimmie Rodgers since 1957 and have my share of his recordings. I've always said that Jimmie Rodgers' first recording of "WALTZING MATILDA" (from his first LP album), is by far the best version of this famous Australian folk tune and is my favorite Jimmie Rodgers recording. I feel fortunate to have been blessed by his wonderful voice and music for the last 64 years.

I was a fan of his; never had occasion to meet him or see him in concert, but I loved his voice. When I was on active duty with the Navy, back in 1969 - 1971, I had an LP by him ("Windmills Of Your Mind") that I bought in the Navy Exchange at NAS Cubi Point, Philippines, where I was stationed, & I listened to it often. Two of my favorite cuts on the album are "Windows Of The World" and "Me About You". I still have the LP all these years later, and it's in good condition. My FAVORITE song by him will always be "It's Over". My condolences to his family.

My Dad counted "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" as one of his favorite songs of all time. I had just remembered his passing 24 years ago the week before Jimmie passed. I still remember recognizing his lyrics in the voice of Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant ("Dazed and Confused", on "The Song Remains The Same" Film Soundtrack) and chuckling to myself at how far his influence had reached. The generations will remember him as a unique voice in early rock n' roll. My heartfelt sympathies to his family.

My father #JimmieRodgers was an incredible man in every respect. He was kind to everyone he’d meet and always giving of himself to anyone or cause in need of his time or talents.

A vocalist without compare and a writer of some of the finest songs in the American songbook. In his later years he focused his creative energies on scripted animation features, a biography, poetry and short stories.

His passion for creating quality music and prose never left him. He was loved by millions of people throughout the world and as his oldest son his impact on my personal and creative life is immense. His legacy will live on forever.

I love you dad. I will miss you and my life without you will never be the same.

His lyrical voice told stories without screaming or dancing; you heard his talent which never wavered. My favorite was "It's Over" due to its incredible poetry and touching sadness. An incredible artist that never was fully acknowledged for his talent. My heart does not want to admit "It's Over." We will always remember you.

Thom M. Armstrong

January 21, 2021

I grew up in Camas, Washington, the hometown of Jimmie Rodgers. My parents, Wes and Doris Armstrong, knew Jimmie and his brother Archie. While a youngster, I recall vividly the handmade wooden sign made by Jimmie's father that hung over the front porch of the simple Rodgers home in Forest Home, which read "Honeycomb." Jimmie's parents are buried in the Camas Cemetery, and their headstone is located very close by to where my grandparents are also buried. A few years ago, I
travelled from California to Camas to attend a book-signing event for Jimmie at a shop in downtown Camas. My father, brother, sister and sister-in-law were also in attendance and we had our picture taken with Jimmie while he autographed the books we purchased. I asked him at the time about that wooden "Honeycomb" sign, and he informed us that he had it at his home in Palm Springs. Later that evening, we were pleased to sit in the front row of a local church downtown where Jimmie performed a concert. When my mother passed away in 2010, "Honeycomb" was played at her funeral in Camas. When my father goes, it will be played at his, and it is one of the musical numbers that I have indicated I want played at my memorial service when the time comes.

A couple of years ago, I recall reading an interview with Bob Dylan that appeared in the AARP Magazine. In it, Dylan complimented Jimmie for being an artist who "could do it all" when it came to signing. That is high praise coming from one of music's living legends.

Thank you, Jimmie, for the gift of music that you gave to so many people all over the world. May God bless and comfort your family during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Thom M. Armstrong

What an awesome voice and wonderful personality to with it. After 42 years of being a fan of Jimmie's I was honored to meet him in Branson. He had been alerted to my presence after I told the ticket agent my story. He asked me questions and sang several songs to me. I'm sure others had similar experiences but have have to say he was so wonderful to me that evening and that memory will never die nor can it be taken from me. God Bless the wonderful family he had and to Jimmie, Rest In Peace and Thank You for all the joy you have given others.
