Jimmy Powers Obituary

Jimmie James Powers Jimmie James Powers went to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on June 6, 2014. Jimmie was born on October 10, 1960 and spent most of his life living in Visalia. He graduated from Redwood High School in 1978 and attended C.O.S. for one year before he was signed to a professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox. After completing his baseball career, Jimmie worked for many years at Accurate Partitions in Malaga where he rose to be the Director of Operations and Vice President of the company. In his later years, Jimmie worked for several companies associated with Cal Trans, managing the lane striping division. He last worked for S.C.I. Pavement in Monterey until suffering injuries in a work accident in 2008. Jimmie was a guy who was always ready to lend a hand to anyone and, if asked, could provide the answer, the part, or the tool to solve the problem. He collected many things but one thing he collected more than anything else was friends. Everywhere Jimmie went he made friends be it for a minute, a month, a lifetime or forever. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman who found the most peace in his life either fishing or spending time in the backyard of his home with all of his relatives and friends celebrating and swimming. An excellent athlete at any sport he tried, he was also adept at darts, foosball and dominoes. He had a man-cave before they were called that. It was a shrine to his beloved Green Bay Packers who will be one fan short this year. Jimmie was preceded in death by his father Larry Flynn who was a guiding light and rock in Jimmie's life. He is survived by his mother Nicolasa "Niki" Flynn, his sister Shirley Hernandez and brother Edward Powers all of Visalia. He is also survived by his wife of 29 years, Debbie and his three beloved children, Jimmie Jr., Danaka and David. He will also be missed by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention here. Jimmie will be missed by many other friends who were considered family to Jimmie as well as the hundreds of strangers he helped throughout his lifetime. A memorial service was held on June 12, 2014 at the Visalia District Cemetery where he was laid to rest.
