Joan Jackson passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 13, 1936 to Vernon and O'Dell (Hayes) Watkins. Joan was married to her High School sweetheart, Robert E. Jackson on February 21, 1953. Together they travelled the U.S. while Robert was in the Air Force before finally settling down in Colorado Springs in 1968 and lived here for 54 years.
She worked for AAFES for 20 years and acquired an Associates Degree in Business Management. Joan was a philanthropist always helping others and offering advice. She was kindhearted and always tried to see the best in others. She loved butterflies, swans, birds and all things in nature. She loved babies, dancing, traveling, gambling in Las Vegas and Cripple Creek, Betty Boop, sewing, doll making, shopping and especially the color red.
Joan was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars Magnolia Chapter #14 (Past Worthy Matron), Daughter of Isis Kadesia Court #162 (Past Commandress), Order of the Golden Circle (Past Loyal Lady Ruler). Joan will be missed by her family and all of the people whose lives she touched.
Joan was preceded in death by Lucy Hayes (grandmother), Vernon and O'Dell Watkins (parents), Cherie Sims (daughter), Jessika Sims (granddaughter) and Cromwell Pope (son-in-law).
She is survived by her husband Robert E. Jackson, sister Beverly Wright, brother Vernon Saunders, her children Cynthia Reed-Smith (Wayne), Terry R. Morgan (Tom), Cheryl L. Pope, Norine K. Brown (Aaron) of Lakewood, Washington, Robert E. Jackson II (Jackie) of Cleveland, Ohio, Valerie J. Baker (Robert), 16 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory, 1104 S. Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. November 14, 2022 Viewing at 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm November 15, 2022 - Funeral at 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm. Graveside at Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm. Repast at Angelus Reception Hall at 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association P.O. Box 840692 Dallas, Texas 75284-0692.
