Joann Schuenight Obituary

Joann departed this life on July 1, 2013. She was born August 30, 1927 in Topeka, KS to Raymond and Velma Firestone. Joann graduated from Topeka High School in 1944 and married Jon D. Schuenight June 25th of the same year, in Carlsbad, NM. They lived in Topeka and Oklahoma City prior to settling in Colorado Springs in 1954. In an ever-changing world, Joann remained tolerant and nonjudgmental, while never compromising her own integrity. As a woman of kindness, generosity and a gentle but strong demeanor, she was greatly loved and admired. She will be missed by all who knew her. Joann is survived by three daughters: Janese, Joleen (Christopher) Thompson, and Jeri (Joseph Chumbley), all of Colorado Springs; twin grandsons, Dylan and Dustin Thompson; and stepgrandson Erik Chumbley, her special gifts; a brother, Neil Firestone (Joy) of Topeka; and a sister, Carol Kay Schrock of Harrisonville, MO. She is predeceased by her husband, Jon; an infant daughter, Nancy; her parents; and many cats and dogs, the most recent being her beloved Annie. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Pikes Peak Hospice, or a charity of the giver's choice.
