Joanna Dewey Obituary

Joanna Louise Dewey, 55, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family the morning of May 10, 2011 due to complications with ovarian cancer. Jo was born February 23, 1956 in Provo, Utah to Russell and Irene (Barney) Newbold. Joanna married Chuck Dewey in October of 1973 and together had four children. They lived in several communities across the western U.S. Joanna was a loving and dedicated mother, providing all the nurturing and care her family needed. She also served others with compassion and love. Because of these attributes, Joanna made many lifelong friends in each community that she lived. Joanna loved the sun and warm weather and looked forward to spending a vacation on the beach in California with her friends and relatives each fall. She had a powerful love for her grandchildren and cherished every moment that she spent with them. Joanna is survived by her mother, Irene and her sister, Barbara (Don) Pettley of Tooele, Utah. She is also survived by her husband Chuck Dewey; sons, Chad, Ross and Chaise from Colorado Springs; daughter Alicia (Brian) Kinne and grandchildren Brynleigh, Porter and Wyatt from Layton, Utah. She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Newbold and brother, Brian Newbold, both from Tooele. Joanna was a member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in several different assignments. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 AM, Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Black Forest LDS Chapel, 6950 Shoup Road with funeral services immediately following. Joanna will be laid to rest in Tooele, Utah where she grew up. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Joanna Dewey's name to the Penrose St. Francis Foundation Cancer Center, 2222 N. Nevada Ave. Colorado Springs, CO. 80907.
